A community grant program was created by the Operation Round Up Board of Directors to help area non-profit organizations. Operation Round Up awarded $15,000 in grants to 10 local non-profit organizations, thanks to contributions made by Cooperative members.
Literacy Lubbock is a non-profit organization that promotes the empowerment of adults and families through literacy programs such as GED studies. It was established in 1989 as an education and human services organization. Funding from Operation Round Up allowed Literacy Lubbock to cover the cost of the GED exam for their students.
Obtaining a GED enables students to apply for better-paying jobs, provides the opportunity to advance in their current position, enroll in college, and set a great example for their friends, colleagues and children. Literacy Lubbock celebrated the accomplishments of their students who passed their GED by hosting a graduation ceremony.
