A Season of Giving

To better help the communities we serve and further South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up’s mission of neighbors helping neighbors, the Operation Round Up Board of Directors created a community grant program to help local non-profit
organizations.

Thanks to our generous membership, Operation Round Up was able to give out $24,000 in grants to 19 local non-profit organizations.

Early Learning Centers of Lubbock are a 2020-2021 Operation Round Up Community Grant recipient. The Early Learning Centers offer educational, hands-on programs to help all children grow and develop in their own unique way, but with the end goal being all children leave kindergarten ready.

The Early Learning Centers of Lubbock were able to purchase 342 books for children birth through school-age. Each center had a Christmas party for the children, and each child received a book. They also have books to give to newly-enrolled families.

“Last year was a challenging year for us all. Even more so for young children because they don’t understand why the adults in their lives are stressed, not going to work, and even dying,” Lena Scaff, Executive Director, said. “Climbing into their parent’s lap to have a book read to them is a calming and bonding experience.”

“Thanks to Operation Round Up, for a few minutes each day, these children can relax and enjoy being a child while reading a book with their parents!”
