As a Cooperative member, you can automatically round up your electric bill to the nearest dollar where the extra cents collected will be contributed to Operation Round Up.
In 2022, the Operation Round Up Board of Directors awarded a total of $19,500 in grants to 13 local organizations. Special Olympics Texas was awarded a $1,500 community grant.
Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) is devoted to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing them with year-round sports training and Olympic-type sports competitions. The endeavors of SOTX have successfully helped 888 Lubbock-area athletes improve their health, mood and anxiety through positive exercise, as well as form valuable life skills and friendships.
Much of the work by SOTX is focused on inclusion for Lubbock-area athletes with intellectual disabilities through the exposure of organized team and individual sports. Several school campuses across the South Plains community have effectively encouraged students with and without intellectual disabilities to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle because of SOTX. SOTX used their community grant to purchase shelves to efficiently store sports equipment.
Special Olympics Texas aims to continue making a positive impact on the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and appreciates SPEC for helping contribute to the cause.
