South Plains Electric Cooperative is committed to the communities it serves. Operation Round Up is an innovative program in which Cooperative members help to provide funding for people and projects in our local communities.
As a Cooperative member, you can automatically round up your monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar where the extra cents collected will be contributed to Operation Round Up.
In 2022, the Operation Round Up Board of Directors awarded a total of $19,500 in grants to 13 local organizations.
A recipient of a $1,500 ORU Community Grant was Childress Meals on Wheels, a non-profit organization that delivers freshly-prepared meals Monday through Friday to community members in need. Volunteers for Childress Meals on Wheels serve an average of 68 clients per month, and meal counts range from 1,200 to 1,400.
Currently, Childress Meals on Wheels has 49 volunteers on their call list, in which 26 of them also serve as weekly drivers who deliver to five different routes within the city limits. From September 2022 to August 2023, there were a total of 107 clients who were served daily meals and several more on a waiting list. Additionally, during this period, 1,945 individual meals were served, totaling $10,327.85. The Community Grant awarded to Childress Meals on Wheels helped contribute to the cost of these meals.
