South Plains Electric Cooperative is committed to the communities it serves. Operation Round Up is an innovative program in which Cooperative members help to provide funding for people and projects in our local communities.
As a Cooperative member, you can automatically round up your monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar in which the extra cents collected will be contributed to Operation Round Up.
In 2022, the Operation Round Up Board of Directors awarded a total of $19,500 in grants to 13 local organizations.
Guadalupe-Parkway Neighborhood Centers was a recipient of a $1,500 Operation Round Up Community Grant. In 1962, the need to assist families in the Guadalupe neighborhood was recognized by Barbara Sommerville and Lubbock Area United Way, thus Guadalupe-Parkway Sommerville Centers. Following the devastating tornado of 1970 which destroyed much of downtown and east Lubbock, Sommerville requested a similar center in the Parkway-Cherry Point neighborhood. These centers have served thousands of children and their families over the years.
Guadalupe-Parkway Neighborhood Centers aim to meet the needs of the community by offering programs to children and their families which provide opportunities to learn, develop self-esteem and realize their full potential.
This mission is fulfilled through online learning, literacy training, competitive sports and fine arts. Enrichment classes are also offered to provide additional opportunities for the development of self-presentation and character, the building of character, confidence, leadership and discipline.
With their Community Grant, Guadalupe-Parkway Neighborhood Centers purchased fuel for one of their four transport vans needed to drive children from their schools to centers located north and east Lubbock.
