Local Teachers Receive Mini-Grants
Tuesday | May 5, 2026

Concern for Community is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles guiding South Plains Electric Cooperative. Giving back to our community gives our Cooperative the opportunity to support community efforts that enhance the quality of life for members and their families. Operation Round Up helps provide funding for community members in need.

Operation Round Up is funded by Cooperative members rounding their bill up to the nearest dollar.

Marci Bateman, a teacher at Spur ISD, used her grant to fund the “Bulldog Book Oasis,” a unique outdoor hammock addition that allows students to have a quiet place to read.

Shanna Sides, a teacher at Kingdom Preparatory Academy, used her grant to purchase taxidermy creatures and plants to provide enrichment and hands-on learning experiences for her kindergarten students.

Terri Welch, a teacher at Roosevelt ISD, used her grant to purchase books with specific letters and letter clusters to make it easier for students to work on specific sounds and patterns.

Steve Sims, a teacher at Lubbock-Cooper ISD, used his grant to buy a green screen and materials for dictation so his students could learn to set a studio to prepare for monologues.
