Concern for Community is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles guiding South Plains Electric Cooperative. Giving back to our community gives our Cooperative the opportunity to support community efforts that enhance the quality of life for members and their families. Operation Round Up helps provide funding for community members in need.
Operation Round Up is funded by Cooperative members rounding their bill up to the nearest dollar.
Christina Parr, a teacher at Frenship ISD, used her grant to purchase Scholastic News and Super STEM magazine subscriptions. The magazines were beneficial in helping students connect reading, writing, science and social studies concepts in an engaging way.
Carly Torres, a teacher at Roosevelt ISD, used her grant to support the “Game of Life” project at her school. Through this project, students practiced budgeting skills while gaining a better understanding of the financial responsibilities that come with adulthood.
Josie Williams, a teacher at Crosbyton ISD, used her grant to enhance the “Brave Bucks” program. Students had the opportunity to earn “Brave Bucks” by obtaining parent signatures in their take home folders, homework, extra credit work and acts of kindness. Students were able to shop every six weeks with the Brave Bucks they earned.
