The Operation Round Up Board of Directors created a mini-grant program to help teachers with classroom projects or educational field trips. Operation Round Up approved another three-year cycle of teacher mini-grants.

Nineteen teachers received grants for their reading or social studies classroom projects for the 2020-2021 school year.

Samantha Wright is a dyslexia therapist at Bennett Elementary and is a 2020-2021 Operation Round Up Mini-Grant recipient.

Wright was able to purchase an iPad and a printer for her classroom, as well as reward her students with a trip to Braum’s for ice cream.

“The additional iPad provides students with the opportunity to access the ‘Lexia’ reading app while in my classroom, and the printer prints beautiful copies from the convenience of my room,” Wright said.

Wright created a challenge for her students to complete over the summer break.  The challenge was for students to use the Lexia reading app to work through different reading activities and levels. Nine students met the challenge by July 31 and were treated to Braum’s for ice cream.

“Thank you, South Plains Electric Co-op, for choosing to support me this year in my dyslexia classroom at Bennett Elementary.”
