South Plains Electric Cooperative is committed to the communities it serves. Operation Round Up is an innovative program in which Cooperative members help to provide funding for people and projects in our local communities.
Operation Round Up is funded by Cooperative members rounding their bill up to the nearest dollar.
In 2022, the Operation Round Up Board of Directors awarded a total of $19,500 in grants to 13 local organizations.
A recipient of a $1,500 Community Grant was Unpack Ministries. Unpack Ministries is a non-profit organization that serves single women in the community who have been through trying times, such as incarceration, abusive relationships and other difficult circumstances, then forced to begin their lives again.
Unpack Ministries helps these women unpack their hardships to make a home for themselves and their families. Their greater mission is to share the love of Christ to these women. This mission is fulfilled through weekly meetings where Biblical principles are shared, and the women in need are taught how to apply the principles in their own lives.
Unpack Ministries used their Community Grant to purchase 50 toolkits for single women and moms in the organization. Oftentimes, these women do not own the necessary tools required for simple household repairs which results in them spending money on low-quality tools that do not get the job done. Unpack Ministries purchased pink toolkits as well as blue toolkits for the single moms who have young sons at home. These toolkits were treasures, and the women of Unpack Ministries were beyond elated to receive them.
